After I got off the phone with my mom, I knew I had to do something to protect this house. If the doors were wide open, it would get vandalized, ruined, and the house was too beautiful for that to happen. I spent about 8 hours on the phone that day. I called the local Budweiser brewery, they transferred me to their 1-800 number, I left a message with the 1-800 number, I called the local police department, the historical society, looked up the neighboring property owners, and then I decided to try the Budweiser brewery again (this was around lunch time).
To my pleasant surprise the concierge was on his/her lunch break and the security guard answered the phone. He gave me the phone number of the department that managed this beautiful house and wished me luck! I called that phone number and they needed you to type a name to get through their automated system. I called the security guard back and he said “I only have a name for if the building is on fire… but go ahead and try it!” It worked!! She also happened to be the sweetest woman ever and also loved this house. She was my key to getting in touch with the right people, an attorney out of St. Louis who had no idea anybody cared about this old house.
Stay tuned for part 3!
