The Chandler Farmhouse was built in 1922 by Oliver Chandler. Oliver Chandler was a stock broker (as in cows… not Wall St.) and built this Mediterranean Revival home as a vacation home for his family. Their main residence was downtown Fort Collins right across the street from the college. I did so much research n their family tree, their children and their history. The house switched hands as a vacation home for many prestigious people including the mayor of Fort Collins, until it was purchased by Anheuser-Busch for it’s farmland. The Budweiser brewery was built just East of the Chandler Farmhouse, and they farmed the land around it to perfect their crop breeding. It was rented out to a few families during this time, and then was boarded up when the land went on the market to be sold.
I saw the boards go up on the house and immediately wanted to buy it. I had never been inside, but knew that I would love it – it was truly my dream house. If you live in Colorado you know that these types of houses aren’t easy to find. It looks very East coast – mediterranean and not your typical mountain craftsman home. Come to find out there’s a community of people that also loved this house and I love hearing stories of past residents. Now that is where this story began –
